Unfortunately I'm stuck in the UK, I need a license for Toy Guns (Airsoft primarily).
The concept of buying anything but an "Agricultural Shotgun" is laughable in this country.
What I wouldn't give to be able to walk into a store, Pick up a 1911 .45 and waltz on down to the range to pop a few targets.
I've personally fired a real gun once. It was a 4-10 shotgun. Exciting.
Our firearms laws got shot to **** when some single jackass went on a rampage (Dunblane Massacre), and because this country is full of limp wristed fgts that just ban problems, we went through a huge phase of banning anything with a trigger almost.
First it was automatics, which is fair enough. Then semi-autos' got smacked down, then anything that fired cartridge ammunition... Then they just thought "Well we've banned this much!" and actually stuck a general ban on anything with "the ability to cause severe physical trauma" or something like that.
But hey, at least we still had the .22 Caliber pop-guns right? Well no, in 1997 they got banned too.
The only one gun you can own is a Shotgun, you need one hell of a license - epic security checks.. and I believe the Police come to your house and check your premises to make sure you have the relevant triple-locked gunsafe and weapon locks for the gun and the ammunition. Basically anything to prevent the gun from being used in an emergency.
Some air-rifles also require a firearms certificate if they have a muzzle energy of over 12ft/lbs.
I envy you Americans, you actually have freedoms written on a bill that is the damned gospel. This country doesn't have base standards, they just change the rules to suit the easiest way out.
The government kneejerk-banned the peoples right (unwritten right i guess) to own guns in damn near every form including toy replicas. The Dunblane Massacre (18 killed including the gunman's suidice) caused a Petition to be signed by around 700,000 people. Apparently this is enough people to take away the right from the remaining 50 million-ish.
Out of 50 million, 700 thousand is damn near nothing. Thats like a 1/70th of the population or something.
At least we can still buy knives if we're over the age of 21, but considering how people have started to resort to stabbing each other now, I guess we'll just ban those - and we'll need a license to buy a decent set of cooking knives soon.
Annnnd then people will just start beating each other with hammers, so we'll ban hammers.
And then fists, those will get chopped off at birth. Soon you'll be able to tell a true UK Citizen from 50 paces.
He'll be a stump, no arms and no legs... and even then he'll fight by biting his enemies.
